Frequently Asked Questions

What is an adjustment?

A chriorpactic adjustment or manipulation is a gentle, specific "thrust" delievered using the hands or a special instruemnt. The purpose of an adjustment is to correct the joint dysfunction and allow the body to function properly.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes! Statistics and studies prove that chiropractic care is one of the safest types of healthcare services. This is why the malpractic premiums chiropractors pay are significantly lower than those paid by medical doctors. Chiropractors go through many years of schooling and training to ensure they are competent and well versed when it comes to treating patients.

What if I do not want to be adjusted?

Adjusting is only one tool in our tool box. There are other gentler options besides joint manipulation, such as mobilizations. Your chiropractor here will be more than happy to discuss your concerns and develop a treatment plan that works for you. Chiropractors are also trained in various adjusting techniques including gentler ones.

What should I wear to my appointments?

We highly recommend wearing clothes that are both comfortable and loose (workout attire is pefect). Please also keep in mind to wear clothes that would give the doctor easy access to the area of compliant. For example, if your condition is knee related please wear shorts or loose pants so the doctor can treat and examine that area easily. However, we understand life is hectic and will work around whatever you choose to wear that day.

Is there free parking?

Yes! There is free parking in the underground garage. You can find the entrance at the side of the building on Lapeer.

Do you take x-rays or perform body scans in the office?

No, but we will refer to an imaging center and write the prescription needed for x-rays, MRI, or other types of imaging if needed. The history and exam taken during your first visit will indicate if imaging is needed. There is no need to expose the body to unnecessary radiation and we understand your time/money is precious. We treat the body and not the image.

Once I go to a chiropractor will I always have to go for the rest of my life?

At Body Forward Chiropractic, our goal is to educate and empower you. We want you to understand and learn how to maintain your body which reduce the need for future care. However, depending on your condition and severity it may take a period of time to get you to the point where you can self manage. Chiropractic is a process. That being said, chiropractic is a lifestyle much like health eating and staying active. These good habits should be maintianed.

Do chiropractors work with medical doctors and other healthcare professionals?

Absolutely! We work with many health specialists in order to provide the best possible care for each patient. If your condition requires another type of care we cannot provide, we will refer you to the appropriate provider. Similarly, medical doctors also refer us many patients they believe will better benefit wih our specific specialty and treatments.

Do chiropractors prescribe medication?

No, chiropractors do not prescribe medication. However, here at Body Forward Chiropractor we are not totally against the use of medication. Medication and surgeries has their place and are necessary at times if used responsibly.

How will I feel after my adjustment?

Each individual responds to being adusted differently. Most patients experience instant relief along with being more "intuned" with their body. Feeling achy and having muscle sorenss is completely normal especially after your first few adjustments as your body adpats. However, most of these reactions will subside within several days and you will begin to feel the benetfits of the adjustments.

I'm scared of the "cracking" and "popping" sound during an adjustment, what is happening?

You should not be scared of the sounds produced duirng an adjustment. The sound is not coming from the bones, but rather the special capsules surrounding the joints. These capsules are filled with a special liquid called synovial fluid. When the joint is misalgined or restricted, pressure builds up within the capsule. Adjustments realign and move these restricted joints which releases the pressure creating a "crack" or "pop" sound. However, not all pateints produce sounds during an adjustment. This does not mean the adjustment was ineffective. The main goal is to move restricted joints not create the "popping" sound.
